How I Learned to House Train a Puppy
If you're like me, then coming home to see your new puppy has left you a present on the rug isn't something you look forward to. I know I had a hard time house training my puppy when I first got him. It seemed like every time I came home from work or the store, my rug was wet and my puppy just looked at me like "what". It was at that point that I decided I needed to house train my puppy before it was too late.
I started with basic training like letting my puppy out every hour, and using the same door to take him outside to go to the bathroom but then realized I needed to do more. I needed to start a schedule for my puppy so I knew when to take him out to the bathroom, when to feed him, and keep doing this every day. I wrote it all down and put it on my refrigerator so I could look at it ever morning. A funny thing happened after a couple of weeks. My puppy stopped going to the bathroom inside and started waiting until I took him out to go.
I was overjoyed; finally I had started to house train my puppy and put a stop to those nasty presents left on my new carpet. I knew I was on the right path and if I just continued doing as I was doing, my puppy would soon be the envy of all my friends. I started cleaning all the spots on my rug with a pet deodorizer so he wouldn't return to the same spot and do it all over again making my training ineffective. I am proud to say that all my effort paid off and my little puppy, which is not so little any more, is fully house trained.
