Puppy Behavior - How to House Train Him
We now are aware that a lot of your pup's learning is when they are very young and the time from when they are a few weeks old to five or six months old is very important in your puppies learning. This is when your dog will learn much of what will influence their adult behavior in their later life. So in truth, the earlier we start to teach our new puppies and teach them how we would like them to behave - the better life will be for everyone.
One of the great advantages of owning a dog as a pet, and why they are so successful is that they can learn to not mess in the house. As house training is often one of the first tasks to be done when you first get your pup you will want to be successful so you home doesn't get into a mess.
So that you have a good basis for your puppy - you must be easy to understand as well as being consistent and clear. Be careful as his learning ability could be affected later on if he senses that you are unpredictable and not confident with him.
Go with your pup if your puppy seems like he is going outside to empty himself - he may forget what he needs to do.
After he goes to do his mess, always give hime fuss and give him a treat too. Do remember to give him his treat as soon as its possible so his knows that he has done something good - don't wait until you are both back in the house.
If he does not empty himself then hang around for about five or six minutes and do not distract him. It is best to try and establish a favorite location in your yard for him to empty himself and allow him a reasonable time to do it - else come back inside. When it does look like your pup needs to go then watch him as you do not want him to make a mess in the house. It is important that he learns the correct behavior but by making an error, your pup is learning the wrong habit.
